Leading the Resurgence of Utility-Scale Solar Energy in Alberta<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

GUELPH, Ontario,\u00a0Sept.\u00a021, 2020\u00a0\/PRNewswire\/ —\u00a0Canadian Solar Inc.\u00a0(“Canadian Solar”) (NASDAQ: CSIQ) announced today the completion of the sale of the\u00a0Suffield Solar Project\u00a0to<\/span>\u00a0BluEarth Renewables<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(“BluEarth”).\u00a0The Suffield Solar Project\u00a0(“Suffield”), currently under construction in southeast Alberta,\u00a0will have a capacity of 23 MWac \/ 32 MWp and\u00a0will be among the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities in the province of\u00a0Alberta. Direct Energy will purchase the electricity from the Suffield facility once it is operational later this year. Direct Energy is one of the largest energy and energy-related service providers in\u00a0North America\u00a0with almost one million residential, business and wholesale customers in\u00a0Alberta.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Suffield facility was awarded funding through\u00a0Natural Resources Canada’s\u00a0Emerging Renewable Power Program for pioneering cutting-edge advancements in renewable energy technology. Specifically, the Suffield project will use<\/span>\u00a0Canadian Solar’s\u00a0high-efficiency bifacial modules<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and single-axis trackers. Bifacial modules produce electricity from both sides of the solar panel maximizing total energy generation and improving reliability during winter months. Single-axis trackers allow the solar arrays to follow the sun’s trajectory throughout the day, also increasing electricity production.<\/span><\/p>\n
