GUELPH, ON,\u00a0Feb. 16, 2021\u00a0\/PRNewswire\/ —\u00a0Canadian Solar Inc.<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(the “Company”, or “Canadian Solar”) (NASDAQ: CSIQ), one of the world’s largest solar power companies, announced today the successful close of the\u00a0Japan Green Infrastructure Fund\u00a0(“JGIF” or the “Fund”).\u00a0Canadian Solar\u00a0will partner with Macquarie Advisory & Capital Solutions (“Macquarie”), the advisory and capital markets arm of the\u00a0Macquarie Group\u00a0(ASX: MQG). Macquarie is both the financial advisor and a minority investor in the Fund.<\/p>\n

JGIF’s mission is to accelerate the development of new projects in\u00a0Japan\u00a0with clear monetization strategies, and expects to grant first offer rights to the\u00a0Canadian Solar Infrastructure Fund<\/a><\/span>\u00a0(“CSIF”, TSE: 9284), a Japanese-listed infrastructure fund holding operating solar assets managed by\u00a0Canadian Solar’s\u00a0asset management subsidiary.<\/p>\n

The Fund marks\u00a0Canadian Solar’s\u00a0first platform entry into the private institutional capital pool. Together with Macquarie and other cornerstone investors, the Fund has secured\u00a0JPY22 billion\u00a0(US$208 million) of committed capital that will be used to develop, build and accumulate new solar projects in\u00a0Japan. The Fund will further consider green bond placements and project finance loans as it expands its asset portfolio.<\/p>\n

JGIF is managed as an approved 13X fund management company regulated under the\u00a0Monetary Authority of Singapore\u00a0(MAS).\u00a0Canadian Solar\u00a0and Macquarie will jointly serve as general partners of the Fund, with an economic stake of 67 per cent and 33 per cent, respectively. The Fund aims to catalyze large-scale investments within its six-year fund term and will sell to managed funds or on the secondary market to maximize value.<\/p>\n
