GUELPH, Ontario,\u00a0Feb. 25, 2022\u00a0\/PRNewswire\/ —\u00a0Canadian Solar Inc.<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(the “Company”, or “Canadian Solar”) (NASDAQ: CSIQ) today announced that its\u00a0Global Energy\u00a0business group<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0recently signed private power purchase agreements (“PPA”) with Usinas Siderurgicas de\u00a0Minas Gerais S.A.\u00a0(“Usiminas”, NYSE: USNZY & BVMF: USIM5), one of the largest steelmakers in\u00a0Latin America, committing 50% of the total electricity production of a 381 MWp solar power project in\u00a0Brazil.<\/p>\n

For this PPA,\u00a0Canadian Solar\u00a0will develop and build the 381 MWp Morada do Sol project in the\u00a0State of Goi\u00e1s. Construction is expected to start in the first quarter of 2024 and the project is expected to reach commercial operation by\u00a0January 2025. This is the first corporate PPA signed directly with an industrial customer under the Brazilian self-production framework, and sets another landmark for\u00a0Canadian Solar\u00a0in this market as it will directly and materially reduce energy costs for industrial consumers.<\/p>\n

The Morada do Sol project will use\u00a0Canadian Solar’s\u00a0high efficiency\u00a0bifacial BiHiKu modules<\/a><\/span>. Once in operation, the project is expected to generate approximately 790 GWh of clean energy annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 432,700 households or displacing 118,500 tons of CO2<\/sub>\u00a0emissions.<\/p>\n
